Our Lady of Graces 30 cm

Our Lady of Graces of Faenza in shaped, glazed and hand painted ceramic in Compendiary style.

The Our Lady of Graces is the patron saint of the city of Faenza and is traditionally represented with broken arrows in her hands: they are the arrows of divine justice, a symbol of the pestilence that struck Faenza in 1400. When she appeared with the broken arrows to some devotees, the pestilence disappeared.

The Compendiary style takes hold in Faenza in the second half of the 16th century and is strongly detached from the trend of the previous century to create objects full of color. The Faenza masters leave room for their mellow, soft and candid white glaze, on which they draw light figurines, cherubs and garlands with the brush using only the blue color and two tones of yellow.

Dimensions of the shaped Our Lady of Graces: 18 cm wide and 30 cm high, with a thickness of 3 cm.
