Our Lady of Graces of Faenza in relief ceramic with rectangular shape with lunette, glazed and hand painted in Compendiary style.

The Our Lady of Graces is the patron saint of Faenza: represented with broken arrows in her hands, she is traditionally placed above the doors of the houses, to protect the house and those who live there.

The Compendiary is a style that developed in Faenza in the second half of the 16th century. At that time it seemed that the Faenza ceramists had discovered a new way of making majolica: the objects were no longer full of color, but characterized by a simple, essential decoration, which countered the excessive decoration typical of the previous century. The “whites” of Faenza were born, so called for the dominance of the candid white glaze; the decorations were figurines, cherubs and dotted garlands using only the color blue and two tones of yellow.
